instagram vs reality

I get an overwhelming amount of people saying they are jealous of my "perfect" life that is what they see on Instagram. But what I don't present on social media is that my life is FAR from perfect.
Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat; all highlight reels of the best moments where we look happy. Obviously nobody is posting photos of them sad, or upset, or angry, but when all we see on social media is smiles, and laughing, and dancing, it can be hard to differentiate what's reality.
My instagram shows me in my best moments, but it is not a fair representation of my actual life. You never see me struggling with my mental health, missing home, or experiencing a heartbreak through what I post online.
I present myself online to be positive and happy. And in real life there are many moments where I AM positive and happy, but its not the full portrayal of what I am constantly feeling. And that's exactly what social media is. Not a perfect representation of reality, but a highlight reel.
I always try and only post photos in which I am genuinely happy, but it can be hard to get caught up in wanting to make myself seem happy. In moments where I am struggling the most, I tend to post on social media to hide the negativity in my life.
While social media is a fun platform that I feel like I can express my creativity and passion for photography, it can also give other people the wrong impression about who I am.
So remember, just because someone is smiling to the camera, hugging their friends, or laughing, it doesn't mean that is a realistic depiction of their current life. Social media is a highlight reel.
Lots of love,
Lolo
